Police appeal after man assaulted in Newhaven

POLICE are appealing for witnesses to an assault on a 38-year-old man on the evening of Tuesday July 17 at an address in Chapel Street, Newhaven.

The man is thought to have met three men at the Ship Hotel at around 5pm that evening. At some point after they all went back to a property in Chapel Street and later that evening the victim was assaulted, causing a fractured cheek bone and severe facial bruising.

Police investigating the incident are appealing for witnesses who saw the three men with the victim at the Ship Hotel or in Chapel Street or anyone who has any information about who the men may be.

The first man is described as white, in his 30s, 5’ 9’’, muscular build, short black hair, black t-shirt, tribal tattoos on his arms.

The second is described as white, early 40s, 6’, average build, brown hair and the third is described as tanned or mixed race, late teens to early 20s, 5’8’’, slim build and wearing a red t-shirt.

Detective Constable Phil Cracknell of East Sussex CID said “The victim suffered painful injuries and we are keen to find the men who did this and bring them to justice”.
