Police appeal for witnesses after man died in Exceat road collision

The driver who was injured when his car left the road on the A259 at Exceat on Tuesday May 7 has died of his injuries.

Just before 7am on Tuesday the silver Toyota Aygo, driven by an 87-year old Eastbourne man left the road, colliding with street furniture and trees.

The driver was freed from the car and was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital at Brighton with serious injuries but sadly, despite the best efforts of medical staff he died later that day.

A Sussex Police spokesman said; “We are appealing for witnesses to this incident.

“If you can help please contact the Road Policing Investigation Unit at Lewes via 101 quoting Operation County.

“Alternatively you can email us at collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk.”

The road was closed for several hours in both directions while emergency services dealt with the situation.
