Police are appealing for witnesses to a crash in which a Saltdean motorcyclist lost his life on Sunday (October 11).

The crash, in which a car driver was seriously injured, happened on the A2037 Henfield Road at Small Dole at 12.40pm.

It involved a silver Peugeot 207 hatchback and a red Honda CBR600 motorcycle.

The motorcyclist, a 30-year-old man from Saltdean, Brighton, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The car driver, a 65-year-old woman from Small Dole, suffered severe head and facial injuries and had to be cut free from her car by West Sussex firefighters.

She was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, where she has been detained for treatment. Her condition is described as serious.

The Kent, Surrey and Sussex air ambulance attended to provide medical support. The road was closed for six hours, with diversions via Horn Lane and Edburton Road.

Anyone who saw the collision or either vehicle being driven shortly before it occurred is asked to email collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk or phone 101, quoting Operation Director.
