Police warn town centre businesses

Hastings police are warning town centre businesses after a burglary and three incidents of criminal damage that took place between the evening of last Saturday (January 17) and Sunday (January 18).

The burglary happened at a charity shop in White Rock. Someone broke a window, entered the premises and stole the safe containing £400. The safe was later discovered on Hastings beach on Sunday afternoon.

Three other businesses’ windows were broken. The first was at a community centre in Station Road where a rear window was broken. The second was at a café in Harold Place where again a rear window was smashed. The third was in Robertson Street where a shop’s front window was found damaged.

Inspector Dan Russell, of the Hastings Neighbourhood Police Team, said: “I am asking for all town centre businesses to take heed of this warning and to ensure that they have adequate security measures in place. We are keen for any retailers in the town centre who have CCTV to check this as they may have caught some suspicious activity.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact us via 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or call on 101 quoting serial 165 of 19/1.”
