The Conservatives in the Lewes constituency have chosen their candidate to fight the General Election in 2015.
Maria Caulfield, a Cancer Nurse who works at The Royal Marsden Hospital and who lives locally near Falmer, was selected by Tory party members at a packed meeting in Ringmer.
Bringing more than 20 years of experience of working in the NHS, Maria will campaign passionately to protect local NHS services. Speaking after her selection she said: “I am hugely honoured to have been chosen as I have lived in the area for more than 10 years and it is fantastic to have the chance to represent the towns and villages that I know so well.”
On the issues she intends to campaign on she added: “Talking to people across the constituency the issues do vary depending on where people live. In Ditchling the issues are very different to those people raise with me in Newhaven and Seaford.
“Common issues across the constituency include the poor public transport and road networks, the lack of phone signal and access to high speed broadband, new housing developments, a fairer deal for pensioners and supporting farmers and rural villages struggling in these hard economic times.”
