CAMPAIGN group ‘Yes to Polegate Windfarm’ stepped up its efforts to show support for the application to build five wind turbines on the edge of Polegate.
Members of the group chatted to shoppers in Polegate during a recent weekend about the application by Regeneco for 415ft high turbines on land north of the A27, each side of Shepham Lane.
Campaigners said, if approved, the windfarm could supply clean energy for up to 6,900 homes.
Willingdon residents David and Caroline McKenna were enthusiastic supporters of the windfarm.
David said: “We are happy to support this and think it is a great idea.”
Karen Stewart, of ‘Yes to Polegate Windfarm’, said: “Getting electricity from a free source such as the wind is really a no-brainer.
“The benefits from producing electricity in a much cleaner way than coal or gas is a legacy we can leave for our children.”
Wealden District Council has received hundreds of letters both in support and against the scheme.
It is currently considering all the information provided by the developers and interested parties.
