A POWER failure affected the Alfriston area including Drusillas Zoo this morning, August 1.
Drusillas did not open during the morning until power was restored.
Traffic delays were reported on the A27 Alfriston/Drusillas Roundabout route as a result of the power cut.
A spokeswoman for UK Power Networks said: “At 5.09am today (Wednesday), 302 customers in the Alfriston area experienced an interruption to their power supplies because of a fault on the overhead network.
“UK Power Networks engineers worked as quickly as was safely possible to restore supplies and most customers had power by 6.42am. The remainder had supplies restored by 12.30pm.
“We appreciate how difficult it can be to lose power and would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused.”
Drusillas Zoo confirmed it had suffered a power cut from 5am until 12.15pm.
A spokeswoman for the zoo said: “We can confirm that power is now restored and Drusillas is now open. The situation was beyond our control. We were required to close as a matter of health and safety; the pumps on our toilets did not work and our taps had no water. There was no effect on the welfare of our animals. We are really sorry for any disappointment our delayed opening caused.”
