Budding entrepreneurs are being given a helping hand in starting their own business.
Fourteen successful candidates from the Lewes and Newhaven areas were selected from Local Enterprise Apprenticeship Platform’s (LEAP) latest business start-up training course, the LEAP Kickstart programme 2014.
The programme encouraged people to come forward with their business ideas.
To help get their business ideas off the ground, the 14 candidates were offered free business workshops and professional mentoring.
The candidates were welcomed by Wes Game (Lets do Business Group) and Rachael Page from Lewes District Council, for the first in a series of one-day workshops on Monday (September 22) to help give them the skills and knowledge required to set up their business.
Over the course of the next four weeks, the candidates will receive expert tuition from Lets do Business Group and support to develop their business plans and concepts.
Some of the business ideas put forward include accountancy advice, healthy eating workshops and a vegetarian baby food company.
LEAP’s programme offers free training, business support and professional mentoring to help local entrepreneurs gain the skills they need to start up their business and help to grow the local economy.
Wes Game, Business Manager at Lets Do Business Group said it was a good opportunity to help people start their own business and benefit from tailored training.
He said: “LEAP is a fantastic opportunity for local entrepreneurs to benefit from a tailored training programme to ensure you are ready to start a business in a difficult economic climate.
“I would urge local people to get in touch and see how LEAP could help you kick start your new business venture.”
LEAP is a Lewes District Council initiative.
It is in partnership with East Sussex County Council, Plumpton College, Sussex Downs College, Infacom, Let’s do business, Citizens Advice Bureau, Job Centre Plus, Albion in the Community, 3VA, Newhaven Community Development Association, Action in Rural Sussex and the YMCA.
If you have an idea that you are keen to develop into a viable business start-up, get in touch with the LEAP team on 0300 330 1450 as there will be another opportunity to get involved in early 2015.
