SUPPORTERS are invited to a ramble and rally in Arlington and Abbots Wood starting at 11.20am on the north side of Berwick Railway Station on May 7.

A Ramblers Association statement read: “The walk will explore the beautiful Abbots Wood and nearby woods, If the bluebells are as late as they were last year we will catch the last of a wonderful display.

“The leader will show you the many beauties of Abbots Wood- quite a lot of which are the result of management by the Forestry Commission.  This forest could still be sold off as a result of the existing policy of selling up to 15 per cent of Forestry Commission land because it is classed as commercial forest .  Many of these beauties could be lost.

“En route to Abbots Wood we will walk on paths recently re-opened as the result of action by the Ramblers Association and see examples of the way landowners attempt to deny access to the public. We are likely to see blocked paths, paths that have been ploughed up and signs that have been removed or changed.

There will be a rally at 1pm at the main car park in Abbots Wood We will then walk to Polegate station to return.”

Trains leave Brighton at 10.52, Lewes at 11.09, London Victoria 9.47, Haywards Heath 10.35, Hastings 10.26, Eastbourne 11.04 Unless you are coming from Hastings or Eastbourne buy a return ticket to Polegate because that is where the walk will end.

If you want to come by bus the Cuckmere Community bus leaves Seaford library at 10.42, with a connecting bus(12) from Brighton Churchill  Square at 9.53. There are frequent buses from Polegate to Eastbourne.
