THE second phase of work to construct a new water main which will supply new homes in Hailsham with clean, safe tap water is to get underway next month - with traffic delays expected.
South East Water will install a new 250mm diameter water main along 300 metres of the eastbound section of Hempstead Lane from this Monday, August 6 2012.
To make sure contractors carrying out the work are safe, it will be necessary to temporarily close Hempstead Lane to motorists exiting the A22 eastbound onto Hempstead Lane. The A22 southbound entry slip road from Hempstead Lane will remain open.
The diversion route for motorists will be clearly signed for the duration of the work and construction is due to take approximately four weeks to complete.
This second phase follows work which took place on the northbound carriageway of the A22 between Diplocks Roundabout and Hempstead Lane earlier this year.
