Motorists who use Wannock Road between Wannock and Jevington are being urged to plan ahead as a part of the road is to be closed next month enabling a new section of water main to be installed.

South East Water is almost three months in to a project to lay a new 1.3 km long pipeline that will enable more water to be pumped into the Eastbourne area as the town’s population grows.

To date, 700 metres of new water main has been laid in Broad Road, in the verge alongside Eastbourne Road (A2270) and under the Wannock Mill Stream.

Chris Love, delivery manager at South East Water, said: “Part of this £900,000 project requires us to connect this new water main into a pipeline that was installed in Wannock Road during 2011.The water main we are installing is extremely large, 400mm in diameter, and therefore needs large specialist equipment to lift each section into place.

“To ensure the safety of the public, motorists and our contractor while this work is carried out, Wannock Road will be temporarily closed to through traffic at the Paddock Gardens junction.”

The closure will begin on November 3 and last until Wednesday November 26. A diversion route will be clearly signed for the duration of this work.

Chris continued: “All businesses in Wannock, Willingdon, Jevington and Filching will be open as usual while this work takes place.

“I would like to apologise in advance for the disruption this work will cause, but hope residents, motorists and the local community understand the long term benefits this scheme will deliver.”
