ACTRESS (and former wife of Dennis Waterman of Sweeney fame,) Rula Lenska is guest of honour at an Easter open day at the Sussex Horse Rescue Trust.

It runs from 11am-4pm on Sunday, April 8 at the sanctuary at Hempstead Farm, Hempstead Lane, Uckfield.

Everyone is invited to meet the rescued horses, ponies, donkeys and other animals, enjoy horse and pony rides and take part in an Easter raffle and tombola.

There will also be a parade of sponsored animals and demonstrations of horsemanship. Farrier Bobby Craig will trim the feet of a rescued donkey and pony and fix a set of shoes while explaining the tricks of the trade to onlookers.

Visitors can enjoy refreshments in the barn shop and browse around bric-a-brac and various stalls. They can visit Ralph, son of the Largest Rabbit in the World and talk to Brolly, the Trust’s mascot umbrella cockatoo who might say ‘hello’ and ‘goodbye.’

The Trust is now home to more than 90 rescued horses, ponies and donkeys. Car parking is free and the day marks the summer opening of the sanctuary. It closes on Saturday, September 8.
