Rye is set to remember fallen with parade

The Rye and District branch of the Royal British Legion has organised its parade and civic service for Sunday November 9.

The event has greater poignancy this year with the centenary of the first year of World War I.

Everyone is welcome to attend a Service of Remembrance at St Mary’s Church at 10.55am.

The service will be preceded by a parade where former servicemen and women will be joined by members of youth organisations.

The parade will form up outside Rye Town Hall at 10.30am where Mayor, Cllr Bernardine Fiddimore, will take the salute.

After the service there will be a short ceremony at the war memorial in the churchyard where there will be a silence, the calling of the names of the fallen and the laying of wreaths and crosses.
