RESIDENTS are being asked to nominate a charity which will benefit from the support of a supermarket for a year.

Sainsbury’s in Newhaven has asked customers and colleagues to put forward the charities important to them for the relaunch of the company’s ‘Local Charity Partner’ scheme.

A short list of nominations will be drawn up and three charities will be invited to meet with staff to talk about how Sainsbury’s support could help them.

The store will then choose a charity to partner for the next 12 months.

The current charity Searchlight is eligible for re-nomination.

Store manager Angus Murray said: “We hope that by supporting one main charity partner over the next year, we’ll be able to make a huge difference to its work.

“So now we just need customers to come in and tell us who they want us to consider.

“We have helped Searchlight to raise £8,000 to date, so we have a huge target to beat for the next year.”

If you would like to put a charity forward, nominations can be made in the Drove Road store between May 4 and May 25.

To nominate a charity, simply complete a nomination form and pop it into the ‘Local Charity of the Year’ voting box found at the front of the store.
