A SALESMAN has disrespected a no cold calling zone and knocked on the door of an elderly woman in Hawthylands Road in Hailsham.
The man offered insulation installation after knocking on her door late at night on October 4. But the woman told her relatives who contacted police.
Jamie Harwood, NPT officer, said: “Wealden police attended the lady for a welfare visit and details of the male will be passed to trading standards to make contact as the area is a no cold calling zone.”
Chief Inspector Richard Coates, the Wealden District Commander, said police were more than happy to answer residents’ concerns about cold callers.
He said: “If people are unsure about people calling at their address my advice is to not answer the door and give us a call.
“Not all cold callers are criminals but criminals do use it as a tactic to gain entry to homes.
“They also do target the elderly and the most vulnerable people within our communities. My favourite saying is, If in doubt, keep them out.
“If you require work doing check for trusted tradesmen via your local council or trading standards.”
