THE ROTARY Club of Seaford collected a record breaking amount with its Christmas sleigh rides despite the struggling economy.
More than £8,000 was collected by volunteers who tirelessly toured the streets of Seaford with Santa in aid of local charities.
The Rotary Club said this was tremendous given the financial situation in the country and added the total had risen for the last four years each year.
During December the group collected every weekday evening from December 1 to 23, and Saturday mornings in Broad Street on December 3, 10, 17 and 24.
Rotary club secretary Derek Larter said: “We wish to thank our many good friends who took part in the collections with us as well as all the people of Seaford who supported us so well in such difficult financial times.
“In fact we collected the highest amount ever - all the proceeds will go towards helping organisations and individuals within Seaford.
“Again, many thanks from the Rotary Club of Seaford.”
