Scheme to encourage people to do their Christmas shopping in Seaford is launched

An initiative to encourage people to do their Christmas shopping in Seaford has been launched by councillor Sam Adeniji this week.

He is also inviting people to vote for their Favourite Independent Retailer in Seaford where they could win £100 to spend in the shop they voted for.

The councillor, who represents Seaford on Lewes District Council, said the response has been overwhelming and is appealing for more shopkeepers to take part in the scheme.

Cllr Adeniji said: “Over the past four weeks, I have been consulting on an initiative I have to help independent  retailers in the run up to the Christmas period.

“Whilst some people want any initiative  delayed until next year, all of the local shop keepers I spoke with want to see some action and support this year.

“Personally speaking as someone who used to run a small business locally, I  agree that as a small business you want support and action now, not promises of an action in a few  months’ time.”

Independent Retailer of the Year and Do Your Christmas Shopping in Seaford will run from Saturday November 24 to Sunday December 23.

Shoppers will be encouraged to use their favourite local retailer and vote in store, online or by post for their favourite shop.

It will mean shoppers could stand a chance of winning £100 to spend in the shop they voted for.

The retailer with the most votes will be crowned People’s Favourite Retailer of the Year.

Ambers Florist owner Tracey Ward, who has already signed up, said: “ I think it’s absolutely fantastic. It’s a really good idea.”
