THE HORSE & Groom Harvester pub in Polegate is offering schools the chance to bring a class to the restaurant for a fun-filled session about fruit and vegetables.
Staff at the restaurant on the High Street will team up with a Harvester teacher to deliver a two hour practical lesson about the importance of getting your five-a-day as part of a balanced diet.
Paul Hepworth, manager of the Harvester, said: “The children will learn why freshly prepared fruits and vegetables are so good for them. There will also be a blind taste test where we will try and get them eating some foods they might not have tasted before. We’ll also be giving the pupils their own personal chef hats.
The session involves a blind taste test at the Salad Cart, a tour of the kitchen, some fun facts and a quiz. Up to 30 seven and eight year olds can take part, and afterwards the children and their teachers will enjoy a complimentary lunch.
Following their ‘training’ the pupils will be able to help themselves from the Salad Cart, and then choose a meal from Harvester’s Young Guest Menu. Each child will receive a personalized certificate to mark their participation in the event, and go home with a Harvester goodie bag containing salad ingredients to remind them about what they’ve learnt.
