Seaford celebrates the Olympics with a day of sport

HAVE a go at activities galore as Seaford celebrates the UK’s year of sport on Saturday July 14.

The fun gets off to a racing start at 2pm as sailors take a flame from Newhaven and Seaford Sailing Club to the Martello Tower.

At 2.15pm the flame continues its procession to Seaford Head Lower School in Steyne Road on foot for an afternoon of games and sports.

There will be table tennis, netball, running, cricket, football, cycling and a tug of war among the attractions run by local clubs.

Everyone is encouraged to have a go and there will be bronze, silver or gold medals for the children to win. The adults just get the glory.

Categories include the furthest miles travelled on turbo trainers, the fastest bleep test and more.

At 4.30pm cllr Tony Nicholson, chair of Lewes District Council, will present medals.

The celebrations continue in the evening with a ticket only beach barbecue at the sailing club. Tickets from the club on 01323 890077.

The event is being organised by Seaford Chamber of Commerce, the town’s sports clubs and Wave Leisure, which runs the Downs Leisure Centre.

Chamber of commerce president Rob Blackman said: “The big message is that anyone can come and try these activities.”
