PRESIDENT of Seaford Martello Rotary Club Reg Dove presented Louise Pye from Help for Heroes with a cheque for £7,000.

The club had organised a sponsored walk in May 2011 starting at the Martello Fields in Seaford and finishing at the Martello Tower in Eastbourne – a distance of 12.7 miles.

In total 115 people took part and finished the walk, which took them up and over Seaford Head, down into the Cuckmere Valley, then up again and over the Seven Sisters to Birling Gap.

The last part of the walk was over Beachy Head and then down into Eastbourne.

Reg also presented a special award to two of the walkers, Sue Nathan and Sarah Hatcher, who had raised more than £800 in sponsorship between them.

Reg said: “ I would like to thank and congratulate all of the people who took part in this fantastic sponsored walk, some achieving their own personal goals, all achieving the goal of supporting their Heroes.

It is very satisfying seeing Seaford Martello Rotary Club pulling all of these generous people together to raise such a large amount of money. Look out for the next Martello Walk in May 2012, join in and help us support a worthy charity again.”

The presentation took place at Seaford Golf Club on Monday September 5.
