A SPORTING tradition from Seaford’s past is being revived in a bid to boost the town’s economy and residents’ health.
The Seaford Tourney used to go on for about a week and involved sports clubs from all over the town.
Now Seaford Town Council is hoping to get the event off the ground with the help of volunteers.
Projects and facilities manager Ben King said: “The Seaford Tourney used to be something that was quite vibrant and everyone enjoyed it.
“It seemed to last over a relatively long period - about a week.
“It would bring in all sorts of organisations and sports that would get people involved in health and fitness.”
Previously stoolball, golf and other sports, were part of the Tourney.
Ben is keen to get as many sport groups involved as possible, but is also hoping to attract some youth and extreme sports too such as surfing, kite surfing, jet skiing and skating, as well as more main stream sports such as tennis.
The event would run in the summer and Ben is hoping to launch a small version this year as organising the full Tourney may not be possible this year.
