Seahaven Swim & Fitness Centre will be celebrating its 30th anniversary by taking a trip back in time to the 1980s.
Originally opened on October 31, 1984, Seahaven Swim and Fitness Centre will celebrate its 30th birthday with a week of activities themed around its opening decade.
For anyone who was around and remembers the 1980s there was quite a lot of big hair, shell suits, new romanticism and some shoulder pads.
Memorable events that occurred in 1984 included the inaugural Virgin Atlantic Airways flight, the recording of “Do they know it’s Christmas?” by Band Aid and the start of the miners’ strike – but locally the news was about Seahaven Pool.
Customers, members, ex-employees and local residents are being asked to diginto their photo collections by the staff at Seahaven Swim and Fitness Centre to see if they have any pictures of the facility over the last 30 years but particularly in its early days.
To celebrate 30 years since the sports facility was opened to the people of Newhaven, the centre will be hosting a week of 80s themed activities during half term, which is October 27 to 31.
For instance, on Monday October 27, from 7am to 10am, there will be a 30th Birthday free tea/coffee with your morning swim and from noon to 1pm there will be 80s Aqua Aerobics
