A COMMUNITY radio station based in Seaford is now broadcasting on FM seven days a week.
Seahaven FM celebrated its launch this week on Monday, January 10.
The radio station will help promote local events and is keen to attract volunteers.
Managing director Nick Mallinson said: “The response has been quite incredible.
“The phones are ringing every five minutes. Even from the first day.”
Seahaven FM has been running for three years and broadcasting online full time.
However it has done a few short term broadcasts on FM before and successfully applied for a full time licence in 2008.
Nick added: “We have got more live programmes than any radio station in the area.
“We are there to serve the community, rather than to make money.”
The station was founded to promote local events and help pull in the crowds.
Nick added: “I thought this could be a really good way of helping local businesses and the community.”
Seahaven FM covers Seaford, Newhaven and Peacehaven and is run by volunteers.
“We are always looking for volunteers to help with the administration or on air,” said Nick.
The launch was attended by MP Norman Baker, who also presents a show on Seahaven FM.
Mr Baker said: “For the first time, we will have our own dedicated radio station, and not be dependant on material from further afield.
“It will really put Seaford in particular firmly on the map and be really good in terms of enhancing the town’s already good community feel still further. It is, to use a modern phrase, a game-changer.
“I have been very impressed by the commitment, dedication and indeed professionalism of all those involved in reaching this landmark.”
