Heathfield traders and residents are keeping their weather eyes open and their fingers crossed for a clear, bright day on Saturday, November 23.
That’s the diary date for the 2013 Heathfield Christmas Fun Day, organised by the Heathfield Chamber of Commerce. If all goes well, it’s set to be an action packed day with something for everyone and all ages.
The day kicks off Christmas festivities in the town, sees shops decorated overall and heralds the switch-on of the Christmas lights. The day also aims to raise money for Chamber charity, the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance.
Father Christmas arrives in style at 10am astride a Harley Davidson and tours the High Street and Station Road guarded by a convoy of fellow Harleys. At the same time the children’s window competition begins. Children can collect entry forms from Gemini Cards and the Co-op. All they have to do is look in the windows of shops taking part and find the helicopter and name tag and write the information on the forms. Completed forms are handed into Jocalia Jewellers for marking. A prize for the winning entry will be presented at 4.15pm.
Live music starts outside Trading4U at 10.30am and half an hour later Father Christmas is in his grotto situated in a secret location.
He breaks for lunch at 1pm and returns at 1.30pm. At 4pm he joins children from Punnetts Town Primary School who will be carol singing outside Trading4U. Peter Bayless, BBC Masterchef winner, arrives to give a quick talk about his life as a chef then announces the winner of the window competition and switches on the lights.
