Sex assault in Hailsham woodland

A MANHUNT has been launched by police after a woman was sexually assaulted in woodland in Hailsham.

The 19-year-old woman was walking her dog in the lane between Cacklebury Close and Sandbanks Way at 6.30pm on Saturday, June 11.

A man approached the woman in a wooded area near the lane and sexually assaulted her.

Police said the woman managed to push the attacker off and then she ran away from the scene.

Detective Inspector Rob Morland said: “The victim is shocked by her ordeal and is receiving support from specially trained officers. I would like to thank the local people of Hailsham for their support while we investigate this isolated incident. “Extra high visibility patrols from the neighbourhood policing team will be in the area and will be conducting house-to-house enquiries.

“I am appealing for anyone who was in the area and witnessed any suspicious behaviour to please contact police immediately.” The suspect was white, in his 40s, with dark straight pushed-back hair, and he wore dark blue jeans. He was also described as smelling of cigarette smoke.
