A listed building application is being submitted in the fight to save Polegate signal box.
If successful the iconic Victorian building will be exempt from Southern Railway plans to demolish it, and remain in its current location.
The Save Our Signal box group will send a 500 signature petition with the application.
The group plans to turn the building in the heart of the town into a railway museum.
The group’s chairman Michael Clewett said: “The box is one of the last remaining Victorian buildings in the town, it’s an iconic building that personifies the place.”
The signal box is a reminder of how Polegate grew from an agricultural village into a thriving railway town, said Mr Clewett. The group is looking for a treasurer. To apply call Mr Clewett on 01323-486647.
