A giant ice fairy on stilts, an illuminated five foot tall Mickey Mouse and the Pentacle Drummers were just some of the attractions at the “best ever” Seaford Christmas Magic.
Hundreds of people attended the late night shopping event on Friday December 6 in the town centre, which was organised by the town council and Chamber of Commerce.
Seaford’s town crier Peter White announced the event and the town’s mayor Anthony White and Father Christmas turned the lights on at 5.30pm in Broad Street, in the company of MP Norman Baker and the young mayor.
Town council leader Ian White said: “What a wonderful event it was. It was the best ever, supported by more people than ever who enjoyed the night.
“We must thank all those volunteers who made it possible, which includes council staff and other volunteers.”
Live entertainment from the Archway Choir, Simon Wood, Spoony’s dance troupe, singer Rosie Moore were well received by a large crowd, as was the Pentacle Drummers’ powerful set.
The ice fairy on stilts, new to the event this year, impressed the crowds too.
She was sponsored by Brooklyn Hyundai, Sussex Elderly Care Limited, Deans Place, Hotel, Loadstar Entertainments, Blainies Barbers and Splash Point Music.
Children could also have their photos taken with Mickey Mouse.
The town council said there was a record amount of stalls this year.
There were 20 stalls in total, selling products such as alternative barbecue foods, homemade preserves, Christmas trees, gym memberships and gifts.
In addition, local churches and charities took part to raise awareness and money.
The best dressed window display went to Foam & Fabrics and Ambers Florist, who secured a joint first place.
In second place was won by Home Hardware and third place went to Fonetastic.
Highly commended went to Oxfam for the originality of its message.
Organisers thanked all the volunteers that helped the event run smoothly and gave up their time, Sussex Events Ltd which provided the PA equipment and the technical support at a reduced cost and Brooklyn Hyundai, Wave Leisure, Seaford Home Hardware, WOW Printers, Swindells and The Front for sponsoring the Christmas flyers.
They also thanked Huckleberry Hair for providing the power for the switch on and the traders who provided a tombola prize to the Chamber of Commerce stall.
