SEAFORD in Bloom enjoyed one of the best ever fundraising events when it held its Open Gardens Day on Sunday July 15.
More than 320 people visited the nine beautiful gardens which were open to the public as the rain stopped and the wind dropped.
A record 160 cream teas were served, plants were sold and sponsorship was received, resulting in a fantastic sum of £2,300 being raised towards floral displays in Seaford.
The popular Open Gardens Day is now in its fifth year and is sponsored by Rowland Gorringe Estate Agents.
Seaford in Bloom chairman Isabel Stephenson said: “The generosity of the sponsors, the kindness of those who opened their gardens and the enthusiastic support of everyone who visited is greatly appreciated as it makes all the hard work worthwhile.
“Thanks also go to all those who volunteered to “sit on the gates” - or donated the excellent quality plants for sale - and we are very grateful to The Bourne Chorus who, for the first time, added a well received musical note to the proceedings when they performed at The Barn House during the afternoon.”
Seaford in Bloom is always on the lookout for new venues in this annual event and anyone interested in opening their garden should contact Isabel.
The 2012 Floral Competition was judged on Tuesday July 10 but the results will not be announced until the awards ceremony on Tuesday August 14.
