Slideshow: Festival of Tranport attracts thousands in Hellingly

Thousands of people turned out in the glorious sunshine and braved the wet weather for the three day Festival of Transport over the bank holiday weekend.

The noise and aroma of oil and steam returned to Hellingly for the festival which is now in its 39th year.

Organised by the Eastbourne Historic Vehicle Club, it was held at Broad Farm from Saturday (August 23) until Monday (August 25).

There were more than 1,000 exhibits and demonstrations reflecting all aspects of motoring heritage.

There were also trade and autojumble stands, Harris Bros Vintage Fair, children’s attractions, a beer and catering tent with evening entertainment and other activities.

This year there was a commemoration of WW1 with several exhibits.

A church service was due to be held on the Sunday morning (August 24) in the main arena and joined by representatives of the British Legion branch together with the congregation from Hellingly Church.

Since the show has been running local charities have benefitted from more than £100,000 worth of donations.

This year the festival supported service charities.
