A fire broke out in the kitchen of The Hearth Pizzeria and Bakehouse in Lewes this morning (Friday January 30).

Firefighters were called to Lewes Bus Station in Eastgate Street at 7.40am after it received reports of heavy smoke.

Two crews from Barcombe and Lewes were sent and extinguished the blaze.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said there was fire damage to the kitchen and smoke damage in the restaurant.

The Hearth said on Twitter it was a small fire and no one was hurt.

There has been no serious damage to the building.

The restaurant said it would be closed for a few days.
