Popular BBC weather presenter Michael Fish brought some late autumn sunshine to Polegate on Saturday when he switched on the Christmas lights at the town ’s now regular Dickensian event.
Victorian ladies and gentlemen, ragamuffins and maidservants enjoyed an afternoon of festive fun, featuring the Kingfisher Scout Band, Long Man Morris Men and the Downland Singers.
Visitors browsed a large number of stalls, selling everything from cupcakes to candles and trugs to toys.
The afternoon was made complete by the arrival of Father Christmas on a Southern Railways Special from Lapland.
He was met by Michael Fish and announced by Hailsham Town Crier Geoff Rowe.
A steady stream of youngsters queued up to tell Father Christmas what they wanted to find in their stocking (or more likely pillowcase!) on Christmas Day.
This well-attended event raised nearly £500 for the Polegate Children with Cancer charity.
