A new smartphone-accessible business directory is being set up in Hailsham to help support local traders and encourage shoppers to look for services closer to home.

The business directory was created by Hailsham Forward - a group set up to help revitalise the town.

The group was given £10,000 by the government’s Town Regeneration Project after Queen of Shops star Mary Portas identified towns in need of regeneration.

Now Hailsham Forward wants every local business to get on board and be featured in the new directory.

More than 100 local businesses have already signed up. The directory will be free of charge to all Hailsham businesses and scheduled to go online in the coming weeks.

The resource will be a searchable collection of local companies and leisure providers and people can access it on their smartphones.

It is hoped new and existing businesses will make use of the directory and people will be encouraged to look for products and services closer to home.

The directory will go live at and will be accessible to smartphones via a scannable QR code.

The directory is the first comprehensive online service Hailsham Forward has produced in partnership with the Hailsham Town Council.

Business Enterprise Manager Mickey Caira, who is helping to establish the directory said: “The listing will not only provide a beneficial resource for local residents and those from outside Hailsham wishing to purchase goods and services in the town, but it will also enable local businesses to achieve more visibility within the region to promote small business growth in Hailsham.

“New businesses will continuously be added to the directory – which caters exclusively for companies in Hailsham and its environs - to ensure that readers will be able to find small businesses they wouldn’t normally find. “

Hailsham Forward chairman Paul Soane added: “The directory will give local businesses a highly effective new advertising medium without cost, as well as giving consumers a fantastic new listing for finding the best local service in Hailsham.

“We would love to sign up every single business in the town, and encourage businesses which are not already on the directory to get in touch with Hailsham Forward.”

Business listings are free of charge, although the option to purchase premium listings on the site to make them more visible may be introduced in the future. To submit a business listing call Mickey Caira on 01323 841702 or email
