A TEAM of bug busters have successfully defeated thousands of hairy dark caterpillars after they invaded Hailsham.

The creepy caterpillar army have created problems across the South East this year but were a major cause for concern when they swarmed into Town Farm Estate – giving some residents unpleasant allergic reactions.

Known as brown tail moth caterpillars, the bugs overwintered in bushes and trees on the estate and then emerged in the Spring and infested buildings. Blocks of flats, especially in Vega Close, were badly affected.
