WITH the many events taking place in London to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, Southern will be lengthening some trains and adding services to get people to and from these events in comfort.
Southern services over the Bank Holiday weekend are as follows:
Saturday 2 June – Saturday service
Sunday 3 June – Sunday service
Monday 4 June – Saturday service
Tuesday 5 June – Saturday service
Highlights of Southern’s service provision are as follows:
On Saturday 2 June, the Epsom Derby takes place. Major refurbishment work at Epsom station means that using Tattenham Corner and Epsom Downs stations will make for a more convenient and quicker transfer to the racecourse. All fast trains calling at Tattenham Corner station from Victoria and London Bridge will be lengthened to 8 carriages.
All trains calling at Tattenham Corner station will be 4 carriages. Half-hourly services between Victoria and Epsom Downs stations will be lengthened to 8 carriages.
On Sunday 3 June, the Royal River Pageant takes place with around 90,000 people expected to view the event from Battersea Park.
Until 15:00hrs, for the safety and comfort of passengers, no northbound trains will call at Battersea Park. Passengers will be required to circulate via Victoria, but there will be an additional hourly train calling southbound at Battersea Park, pushing the frequency of arrivals to six trains per hour.
After 15:00hrs, six southbound trains will call, with ten trains per hour calling northbound.
On Monday 4 June, the BBC Concert at Buckingham Palace is expected to draw big crowds. Southern will be lengthening some of its late night and last trains to get everyone home.
