THE Diamond Jubilee Celebration Committee Polegate (DJCC) is finalising arrangements for the Queen’s Jubilee weekend in the town.

There will be a fair at the War Memorial Recreation Ground, Wannock Road, on June 3 and 4.

During those two days fun attractions will include fairground rides, a 28ft climbing wall, crazy golf (Sunday only), pistol shooting gallery, face painting, an ‘un-rideable bike’, crockery smashing and side stalls from Polegate organisations.

There will also be a unique opportunity to view and listen to a lovely little 1935 Austin 7, named Melody, which has a built-in small pipe organ and plays tunes to entertain all ages. Other vintage cars are also planned.

That Monday will include the opportunity to see birds of prey close up and, at 2pm, a Chinese Kieran (Unicorn) performance and, at 3pm a display of traditional Portuguese dance. Bring your camera along to capture lasting memories.

Other events in Polegate include an open day for all the family at the Royal British Legion in Victoria Road on June 2.

Polegate Drama Group is hosting a coffee morning from 10am at Polegate Community Centre followed by the Polegate Community Association planting a jubilee tree in their grounds.

A big lunch for 60 invited guests from Polegate will be hosted at the community centre from 10am on June 3, followed at 3pm by a service for all denominations at the Free Church in the High Street.

Residents of Elizabeth Court in the High Street host a barbecue from 4.30pm on their lawns on the Monday (June 4) where you will be able to buy food and soft drinks.

Polegate Residents Association have their monthly coffee morning at 10am on the Tuesday at St John’s Church hall followed by a Teddy Bears Picnic from 2pm to 5pm, which will take place on the lawns at St John’s with a Teddy Bear Hunt and fancy dress competions for children of various ages.

Refreshments are courtesy of the Mothers Union of St John’s Church.

The final event of the weekend will be an evening, hosted by the Ladies Section of the RBL, where refreshments will be served and you can socialise with friends old and new.

The DJCC are running a lottery. Tickets go on sale shortly, and will be available from a variety of sources within the town including all event venues.

Terrific prizes can be won including two tickets for a tour of Buckingham Palace State Rooms to include travel, a family pass to Newhaven Fort, and a round of golf for two at Willingdon Gold Club plus numerous other worthwhile prizes.

Volunteers are being sought to help steward events and any time given would be appreciated.
