A STRANDED 18ft boat with three people on board was rescued by Newhaven RNLI lifeboat near the East Pier at Newhaven yesterday (Wednesday June 20) just after midday.
The boat suffered mechanical failure and was being blown onto the beach when the lifeboat arrived and found the Coastguard in attendance.
Two of the three passengers were taken ashore leaving the owner on board.
The Y boat (lifeboat inflatable daughter boat) was launched with two crew to refloat it and tow the boat into deeper water where Newhaven’s all-weather Seven Class lifeboat RNLB David and Elizabeth Acland took over the tow into Newhaven Harbour.
Once in the harbour the Y boat again resumed the tow north under the swing bridge to Cantell and Sons boatyard, where a local berthing master took over.
The Y boat was recovered and the lifeboat returned to station at 1.30pm.
