STREET lighting could be turned off, reduced or dimmed to save money in Newhaven and South Heighton.
East Sussex County Council is holding an event to explain its proposals on Saturday July 21 at Sainsbury’s at the Drove from 9am to 12 noon.
Lead cabinet member for economy, transport and environment, Carl Maynard, said: “The pilot schemes in other areas seem to have been well received by residents and businesses in the area, and the local police say there has been no increase in incidents reported to them.
“But we know each town or village will have different needs, so it is really important you come along, look at the proposals and talk through your comments with our staff.”
The council is proposing to turn off some street lights after midnight, reduce the number of lights in some streets and dim others between midnight and the early hours.
You can make your views and concerns known if you live, visit or work in Newhaven.
If you can not make it to the event, you will be able to find all the information and comment online at www.eastsussex.gov.uk/haveyoursay between 21 July and 6 August.
Information and comment forms will also be available at Newhaven Library, Newhaven Town Council offices in Fort Road and at South Heighton Village Hall.
