THE BRIGHTER Uckfield Initiative meant what it said. The town is now blooming, thanks to colourful and attractive planting schemes at major points on key routes.
Cllr Ian Smith told the Express: “These are part of our Brighter Uckfield initiative.
“We had planters made locally - using recycled timber - and the soil came from the Isfield Organic Composting site. We bought flowering plants and now have displays at three of the entrances to Uckfield; Bell Farm Lane, Ringles Cross and the Framfield Road. We could now do with support to help us keep them watered.”
Dorothy Sparks, secretary of the Uckfield Horticultural Society, lent her expertise in choosing plants.
Cllr Smith went on: “We hope to have planters at all seven entrances to the town as soon as we can. We have made grant appeals and it’s all a question of obtaining the money we need. We already have financial help for 2013 but will require support ongoing from that. Clearly the plants will need to be changed at the end of the season.”
