MP Norman Baker has welcomed news that Lewes District Council is adding its support to Shelter’s national campaign to tackle rogue landlords.

Councils which sign up to Shelter’s campaign are asked to take tough action against landlords who are ignoring their responsibilities to tenants, including to proactively inspect properties to make sure they are appropriate homes and enforce laws that already exist to stamp out rogue landlords.

Liberal Democrat Mr Baker said: “I have heard from a number of constituents whose landlords have made their lives a misery and I welcome the news that Lewes District Council is going to proactively support this worthwhile campaign.”

He added: “I would now like to call on other councils to do the same thing and get tough on all unscrupulous landlords.”
