Former Bishop Bell teacher Jeremy Forrest from Ringmer has this morning (Monday) gone on trial on charges of abducting a 15-year-old girl last year.

Forrest, 30, of Broyleside Cottages, pleaded not guilty to the charge in January this year and his trial began at Lewes Crown Court this morning in front of Judge Michael Lawson QC.

He was arrested in September in Bordeaux. He was with a 15-year-old girl who cannot be named for legal reasons.

Richard Barton, prosecuting, opened the case this morning after a eight men and four women jury were sworn in.

The trial is expected to last two weeks.
