The annual Tenants’ Conference held recently in Seaford proved the ideal event for two very special people to formally receive recognition and thanks for all they do within the local community.

Lewes District Council has more than 3,500 tenants who were given the opportunity to submit their nominations for Tenant of the Year.

Cllr Ron Maskell, Lead Member for Housing at Lewes District Council, said: “When the panel read the nomination submissions, we were overwhelmed by the kindness, generosity, help and support that tenants provide to each other and the community.

“It would have been fantastic if all who were nominated could have received an award. However, after much deliberation, we decided that there were two very worthy winners in their own right.

“I am extremely pleased to congratulate Sarah Aldworth, a really good neighbour, always willing to help others, with no thought of reward for herself, and Debbie Twitchen, who works tirelessly for others through the residents’ association and local food banks. Both are worthy Tenants of the Year for 2015.”

Lewes District Council’s Tenants of the Year each received an award certificate, shopping vouchers and a bouquet of flowers from Cllr Ron Maskell, Cllr Ruth O’Keeffe, Chair of Lewes District Council and Andy Chequers, Head of Customer Services.

This year’s conference was extremely well attended with tenants receiving information and advice from a variety of speakers and housing officers.
