Volunteers from Newhaven RNLI launched a lifeboat when a report was received of three people cut off by the tide at Seven Sisters cliffs on Sunday (January 6) but no-one was found.

The lifeboat went out at 4.10pm as daylight was fading as coastguards were concerned the people could be in an area which is completely submerged by the incoming tide and breaking surf.

Newhaven’s Severn Class lifeboat ‘RNLB David and Elizabeth Acland’ arrived on scene and launched its daughter Y boat.

The lifeboat and Y boat conducted a comprehensive searches from Cuckmere Haven through to Birling Gap assisted by local coastguard teams.

Once the lifeboat confirmed no one was trapped by the tide the lifeboat and coastguard teams were stood down at 5.25pm and returned to stations.
