Volunteers from Newhaven’s RNLI Lifeboat Station were launched on Wednesday July 3 at 8.07pm to a 14ft speed boat with two people on board which had experienced engine failure at the North Quay in Newhaven harbour.

The casualty had put out a Pan Pan (urgency call) as they were broken down and were holding on to the quay side as a large scrap ship was proceeding north to its berth.

Newhaven’s Severn Class Lifeboat David and Elizabeth Acland launched its inflatable Y boat which arrived on scene at 8.15pm.

The Y boat crew secured the small vessel alongside and took it safely back to its berth in Newhaven Marina.

The lifeboat then returned to station was again ready for service by 9.05pm.
