Uckfield Festival have secured an all-star line-up for this year’s much anticipated closing Festival event in July.
They have confirmed that much fancied young soprano Jo Appleby will be leading the singing at the traditional Last Night of the Proms.
She will be fronting the colourful women’s close harmony group Surrey Harmony while our own Uckfield Concert Brass conducted by Nick Morris will provide the instrumental fireworks.
Jo Appleby began studying opera at the Royal Northern College of Music when she was 19 and obtained an honours degree four years later. She then won a scholarship from the D’Oyly Carte Opera Company before embarking on an operatic career. She spent four years performing with the Glyndebourne Festival Opera and Touring Opera Company, as well as singing at venues such as the Royal Albert Hall and the Royal Festival Hall.
In 2002 she was signed by Sony BMG as an original member of the opera group Amici Forever. She toured with the group until September 2006 when she left to pursue a solo career.
Since leaving the group she has toured Australia, Dubair and New Zealand as a soloist with the Morriston Orpheus Male Voice Choir.
In 2007 she took part in a concert tour of the UK and the ‘It’s magic’ Christmas concert. The Last Night of the Proms takes place in Uckfield’s Weald Hall on July 17.
