If you love the movies, then not only can you enjoy a sparklingly refurbished picture house in Uckfield, you can celebrate at next year’s Uckfield Festival.
The Festival has chosen The Picture House - which celebrates its centenary next year - as the theme for 2016.
The Picture House has recently undergone a dramatic makeover and film buffs are flocking to its restaurant opposite, where they can buy a ticket to include their meal and entry price.
At the Festival’s AGM, chairwoman Dorothy Sparks said film will be reflected right across the Festival, from the children’s parade to a dinner and film night at the East Sussex National Hotel and even the music played by the Uckfield Brass Band.
The Big Day parade will feature film in all its aspects, and traders are already working on creative themes for their window displays. It’s hoped that the Picture House will show a silent film, and there could also be a re-run of the iconic film of the England team of 1966 winning the World Cup - the 60th anniversary of the nation’s only triumph in that competition. Uckfield Town Council has donated £3,500 towards the Festival which will run from Friday, July 8 to Sunday, July 17.
The Association is working with teams from Same Sky who support the involvement of Uckfield Community Technology College students who parade to Luxford Field on the Big Day. Festival organisers are confident that next year will deliver bumper results, thanks to the generosity of the Town Council and a £3,000-plus surplus in the accounts. The Art Trail is also set to go ahead.
