A team of Scouts from Uckfield have won a gruelling long-distance hike.

Scouts from the Fourth Uckfield Phoenix Troop came first in the touch 2012 Downsman Hike. Taking part in the 25 mile endurance yomp across the South Downs last month, the Uckfield Scouts completed the walk in six hours, 26 minutes beating 18 teams from East and West Sussex.

The team comprised Jack Hunter (14,) Amelia Warren (13,) Megan Newman (13) and Fraser Munn (12.)

Scout leader Phil Jenkins who led the service crew for the team said: “As the event unfolded I knew we had a chance of winning,

“I just had to convince the team that they were doing well and to keep a good pace. I’m really proud of the team and with Fourth Uckfield having such a good reputation in the event, winning 19 of the hikes since its conception in 1983, it’s nice to have the trophy back again.”
