A SCHEME TO install a wind turbine in Uckfield has succumbed to technical problems.
The turbine was due to be put up in the Victoria Pleasure Ground as part of Uckfield Town Council’s drive to reduce its energy consumption. Councillors said they are disappointed that the plan cannot go ahead.
Chairman of the Town Council’s general purposes committee, Cllr Ian Smith said: “We are slightly disappointed as the project was going ahead. We did a feasibility study and we were happy we would get a return on our investment.
“It would have provided power for our own facility and some to spare to sell on. It was environmentally sound too.
“But while we were waiting for all the processes to go ahead we discovered that the turbine now on the market would not have been suitable for our site.”
Cllr Smith said the scheme is temporarily on hold but will be resurrected as soon as possible. “It was just a matter of time.”
In the meantime he is very happy with the solar panels on the Civic Centre roof which are providing income to the council.
