WEALDEN’S unemployment count is going against the national trend and the district is now the 15th best performing area in the country in terms of high employment.
The figures have been welcomed by Wealden MP Charles Hendry.
The number of unemployed claimants in Wealden constituency in November 2010 was 770.
This represents a rate of 1.7 percent of the economically active population aged 16 to 64, the 635th highest of the 650 UK constituencies.
The number of claimants is 275 lower than in November 2009 and two lower than in October 2010. Charles Hendry said: “It is very encouraging that unemployment in Wealden is going against the national trend.
“This shows how well our local economy is performing and is a tribute to the dedication and hard work of the management and employees of our local businesses and organisations. It shows the area is well placed as we move into 2011.”
