UNEMPLOYMENT in Sussex rose in February, according to the latest figures from the Office of National Statistics.
There was an increase in the number of unemployment benefit claimants of 410 across the county.
There are now 27,451 claimants in Sussex, up from 27,041 in the previous month.
Commenting on the figures, Mark Froud, Chief Executive of Sussex Enterprise, said: “Unemployment in Sussex has risen in the two months to February and the Government’s austerity plan is likely to result in further cuts in public sector jobs.
“It is estimated that the UK’s total unemployment is likely to increase to 2.65m over the next 12-15 months before it starts declining.
“The private sector is willing and able to create new jobs and the Government must now use this week’s Budget to scrap regulatory burdens preventing businesses, particularly smaller firms, from employing new staff.”
