The University of Brighton in Hastings is seeking mentors to help support students based at the Hastings and Eastbourne campuses.
Momentum is an award-winning mentoring scheme set up by the University of Brighton Careers Service. Mentors will work with students who stand to benefit most, including those needing a confidence boost or extra support to unlock their full potential. Last year’s Mentee of the Year, Chris Chesman, said: “I consider myself incredibly fortunate to have been able to work with my mentor Steve through the Momentum programme, and know the mindset he has helped me cultivate will be extremely beneficial as I move forwards.”
In exchange for a small amount of time, mentors receive: training in coaching and counselling skills that they can use throughout their career; insight into higher education and the strengths and development needs of graduates; opportunities to network with fellow professionals from a wide range of disciplines; and understanding of how mentoring can assist staff development in your own organisation.
Lisa Bond, national service manager for Barclays plc and a Momentum mentor, said: “This experience has taught me a lot about understanding other people’s points of view and enabled me to take this forward in my role and manage my team and stakeholders in a new light.”Applications close on Friday, September 19.
